Illustration Friday - Satellite

I've been working a lot on pieces for my Etsy shop because I know once work starts again in the fall, I will not have as much time to paint as I do now. I also know that I've put Illustration Friday on the back burner for Etsy. Well, luckily the painting I was currently working on fits within the Illustration Friday theme (or at least I think it fits!). This one is for sale on my Etsy shop.

I've been working on a few more paintings this week, which means
I basically have one in progress all the time.

Here's a recent one that I've listed on my Etsy shop.

Esty it is!

I've just opened up my Esty shop where you can purchase some of my work.
I'm super excited! It's been a lot of work setting it all up, but hopefully it will pay off.

There's a new link on the right where you can access it directly. See those little thumbnail images of my paintings over there? Click one of those (or the image below)...really. Do it. It's fun!

Let me know what you think about it.

Commissioned Painting Step 3

It was too dark for me before, so I lightened it up a bit.
I'm currently waiting for approval on this step to make sure she likes it enough for me to move forward.

I plan on adding some black detail over the colors.
I'll show you as soon as it's finished. Promise!

Commissioned Painting Cnt

This is the 2nd step of the painting for my friend.
Not sure how many there will be until I get it right.
That's one of the worst parts about creating an abstract piece.
But the best part is that sometimes it only takes 3. So we shall see! Stay tuned!

Lace Monoprints

Since I've been of for summer vacation, I've had time to sort through some of my old artwork and take digital pictures of them. So this summer you will periodically see my work from the past sprinkled in with my current pieces.

Here are some of my favorite prints from a printmaking class I took. They are 11x15".

The process: roll out ink on plate, place lace on ink, place damp paper on lace, roll through press.

(I've included details, so just click on any image to see them larger.)

(This one has a highlight from the camera that is not really there. It should be all solid color like the others.)

Cowboy Hat

This is another painting I did in college.
I just love the colors!

I made the stretcher from scratch, stapled the canvas on the stretcher, primed it and painted it with acrylics.

VW Bug Painting

Here's an oldie but a goody from my painting class in college.
I promise it's not a photograph.
I made the entire thing from scratch. Stretcher and all!
It took F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

Acrylic Abstaction

Here's another one of the paintings I finished this week with some details.

I wish I had remembered to take pictures along the way of the individual steps. I will next time! There are about 4 of them. First, put down the texture. Second, dry brush paint on top with a contrasting color. Third, add imperfect circles. Fourth, outline with black/white. I buy the calligraphy acrylic ink for this step. It flows so nicely!

I also like to paint the edges of the canvas so it's ready to hang. No frame necessary.

The beauty of abstract/nonobjective art is that it can hang in any direction!

New Paintings

 Welcome to my studio!

I found four 11x14" canvas' in my closet today and decided to start painting.

Here's the first step. They are drying.
I used a painting knife to give it texture.

Does this one remind you of a cake or is it just me?
And yes, that's cat food in the left corner. Gotta love my Molly!

I can't wait for them to dry so I can get them finished!
Stay tuned to see how they turn out!
