Nevr-Dull Collage

I am currently working with some of my students on composition and they are finding it more challenging than I expected especially since we've been talking about composition all year.

It's amazing what they do and don't retain.

We are creating compositions using magazine pages and Nevr-Dull to matte and dull information that is not important and add texture. (It's actually a metal polisher, but dulls magazines!).

Here's an example I made for them. I love the marks and texture it creates on the plane white paper!

Black & White Design

School is officially in full swing now.

Our first project deals with composition and design. We talk about the rule of thirds, focal point, overlapping, value, contrast, repetition, etc.
They were given a worksheet with three items (mostly two shapes and a line) and had to use only those three things to come up with their composition.

They got to use ebony pencils too. Fancy for Art I, huh?!

This is one of the quick examples I made for the students to show them what I expected.
