After staring at that hand study for over a week, I decided to add to it and make it more of a finished piece.
As I was adding the water to the orange Neocolors in the background, I noticed the black ink was bleeding. Turns out I didn't use a permanent pen for it. So I went with it and added water to the whole hand.
For something that took less than 5 minutes to enhance, I'm happy with it.

Watercolor Fruit
For the past couple of weeks I've been teaching watercolor to my advanced art I students.
It's quite a challenge, but they are getting the hang of it.
This was my example that I worked on throughout the project.
Watercolor is definitely not my strongest medium, but I like the final product.
Hopefully you do too!

Color Chart
Wow this took waaayyyyyy longer than I expected!
I had never made one of these before but I'm not sure why.
I learned so much!!
I learned so much!!
(Like, why did I think I needed that many different reds?! --but the reds do look a little more diverse in person)
Even though this isn't the best picture, I thought I'd share it anyway.
If you have paints laying around (I just happened to use watercolor), I highly recommend it!

Another Abstract Painting
There's just something that calls me to non-objective and abstract pieces.
When I sit down to paint for fun, it just flows out of me.
I can't help it.
So I surrender....

Yellow Rain
I created this without having any idea of what to do with it,
so it became a place to try new techniques.
Some techniques didn't work (watercoloring stencils)
while others turned out pretty well (Neocolors on top of everything).
I think I'm a fan of it as a finished piece though.
What do you think?

Collaged Beach Scene
My sister requested a beach piece for her house in Cali.
She saw the mixed media love piece and wanted one of her own.
She said "something beachy and with starfish."
So here's what I came up with!
Step one: Stamp the word beach.
Step two: watercolor the sand and water/sky
Step three: Collage on starfish and boat
Step four: outline with black and add some dots, waves and a horizon line.
Voila!

Smoke Like
I currently have an A-MAZ-ING student teacher.
Luckily for me her strength is my weakness...
WATERCOLOR.
This week she taught my advanced students some watercolor techniques and I got to play too!
This one reminded me of really pretty smoke.
What does it remind you of?

Journey
This watercolor experimentation has been quite the journey.
All so far have been abstract,
but some are organic like this and others are more geometric like the next post.

Squares
This is the geometric watercolor I promised in the last post.
(It's funny that I'm just now noticing the lines are slightly angled!)

Rain Rain Rain
I took my sketchbook along to a show I did a few weeks back and had time to create this little ditty.
