Spring Break - Project #1

 I love lists!

I love to make lists for my time off. 

I'm on Spring Break and have made a long list. 

Clean the house (I'll spare you the details)

paint (anything and several things)

re-caulk the tub

make a dog bed cover

pull weeds

plant herbs and summer flowers (is it time for this?)

deposit mulah

find a mat for under dog bowl

wash car

vacuum out car

watch recorded shows

workout

hang out with friends

See...I told you it was long. I'm sure I've forgotten stuff too.

 BUT 

I've already crossed off a few things! One of which was make a necklace holder. I got this idea from a magazine (I think it was Real Simple  Found it!) years ago and this is the third version I've had. I had to limit my choices to just a few of my favorite pieces for the space I chose.

I chose an old frame (which I'll probably end up painting later) that is 11x14" and wrapped the backing in a purple scrap fabric I found at a craft store (for about a buck) and attached it with a glue gun to the cardboard in the frame. I removed the glass and used sewing pins to hang the jewelry.

It's such an easy way to display your beautiful jewelry! Give it a shot.

In Love...

I have fallen in love with a new site I found.

 Art House Co-op

The concept is G-E-N-I-U-S!

They create project for you to do and you mail it to them (in Brooklyn) and they have an exhibition with the work they receive. From all over! Sometimes they provide the supplies for a small fee and sometimes they are free. It's basically to allow for creativity through projects while building community based on art.

They have also created the Brooklyn Art Library.  Such a great idea! For a small fee they send you the sketchbook in the mail. You create artwork in it based on their chosen theme. You mail it back to them by the deadline. They cateorgorize it and barcode it and stick it in the library for all to see--just like a REAL library! I can't wait to go see it!

I've signed up for the March Sketchbook Monthlies and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

I have also chosen to participate in the Mail Me Something. Just a 4x6" piece mailed straight to them. No envelope or anything! Here's what I created today while my students were working on their self portraits.

I decided to sign it secretly with my blog too!

I used a scrap piece of mat board I had in the classroom.

Then I spiced up the back of it too.

This side was inspired by one of my students. Thanks Cole for th inspiration!

Illustration Friday - Perspective

Pretty Still Life

Our church has set up the most beautiful still life outside the chapel. 

It was love at first site! 

I got to church early one night and had my sketchbook with me, but time got away from me  before I even started to sketch it. I had to get to the meeting room to get a good seat (and tell my husband which room to meet me in). So while I was in the meeting room, I drew the pretty still life. It is by no means exact, but it's the general idea.

Watercolor

There were pale pillar candles (looked like a vanilla scent) with beautiful wood weaving in and out of the candles. It looks like really soft wood and was so unique with little knots, twists and turns. Provides a lot of movement in the artwork. I'm a fan.
